Different Drummer

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." ~Henry David Thoreau

Indian Captive, the Story of Mary Jemison by Lois Lenski

“It don't matter what happens, if you're only srong and have great courage.”

We met at Ann's home in September to discuss the true story of Mary Jemison and her capture by the Seneca Indians.  A very interesting story, that we wished would have continued.  It was very interesting to learn about this Indian tribe from the Northwest and how they lived.  We learned that Mary was captured to replace someone they had lost from their tribe and she was adopted into the tribe.  She missed her family greatly and struggled with longing and homesickness.  She didn't know that they had been murdered until much later.  An intelligent girl, Mary begins to learn about herbal remedies and shoulders her responsibilities and work in the tribe.

Promise Me by Richard Paul Evans

“I would say that I was without faith, but no one is truly faithless; they just have faith in the wrong things: fear and defeat.” ~ Richard Paul Evans, Promise Me

We met at Paula's lovely historic house on Main Street for our annual Christmas book club luncheon and gift exchange.
